Bangladesh reported the lowest number of Covid deaths in 25 days as 57 new deaths were logged in the last 24 hours ending at 8am Friday. 

Since 5 April when 52 deaths were reported in the country, the daily death toll had been on the rise with a record number of fatalities being reported almost every day. On 19 April, Bangladesh reported its highest number of fatalities when 112 people died of the virus.  

With today's figures, the total death count reached 11,450 in the country and the death rate remains 1.51% on Friday. 

The number of new cases also dropped in the last 24 hours with 2,177 new infections recorded during the period. With these new figures, the total caseload now stands at 7,59,132. Besides, the positivity rate stands 10.34% on Friday.

In the meantime, 21,046 samples were tested in 419 labs across the country.

Among the latest day's victims, 32 were men, and 25 were women. Of them, 55 died in different hospitals across the country while two died on the way to hospital. 

Moreover, 28 of the deceased hailed from the Dhaka Division, 13 from Chattogram, five each from Khulna and Sylhet, and two each from Rajshahi, Barishal, and Rangpur division.

Also, 4,325 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with an 89.76% recovery rate.

The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 8,353 of the total deceased across the country were men and 3,097 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.

India reported more than 300,000 new cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) for the ninth straight day on Friday; with 386,452 new Covid-19 cases, the tally reached 18,762,976, data from the Union ministry of health and family welfare showed.

3,498 patients succumbed to the viral disease in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 208,330.

As of Friday, 3,181,743 people have died of Covid-19 globally with 151,214,432 cases of infection have been recorded so far.
