Shutdown violators during Eid will face stern action: DMP commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Shafiqul Islam has warned to take stern actions against people who will try to go to their villages in this Eid-ul-Fitr amidst the ongoing shutdown.

He has also warned to force shutdown violators to stay on streets until Eid.

Shafiqul said these on Wednesday at a programme organised by the Bangladesh Police Service Association in Narayanganj to distribute relief amongst the needy and poor people on the occasion of Eid.

He urged people to not move from one district to another, saying this would increase the risk of spread of the virus and infection. He also requested the countrymen to celebrate Eid in places where they are staying now.

Shafiqul said, "No one can enter or go out of Dhaka or the surrounding districts. Anyone who goes out ignoring the government's ban will be kept on the streets until Eid."

"Police will take stern actions against the shutdown violators and nobody will be spared," he added.

Chief of Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit Monirul Islam, Police Superintendent of Narayanganj Jayedul Alam, Deputy Inspector General of Dhaka range Habibur Rahman, and Additional Deputy Inspector General of naval police Molla Nazrul Islam were present at the programme among other senior police officials.
