Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) has reported a record number of 12 coronavirus-linked deaths in a day amid an alarming surge in infections in recent weeks.

RMCH Director Brigadier General Shamim Yazdani confirming the matter said, "The patients died within 24 hours between Saturday and Sunday afternoon at the hospital's intensive care unit (ICU) and Covid-19 unit."

Out of the twelve people who died in the last 24 hours, eight were Covid-19 positive and the rest of them had Covid symptoms.

"Samples of the four Covid-symptomatic deceased have been collected, unfortunately, who died while undergoing treatment before the test" added Shamim Yazdani.

Besides, seven of them are hailed from Chapainawabganj while the rest are from other north-western districts.

A total of 51 people have died at RMCH after being Covid-19 positive or with its symptoms in the last six days.

According to Shamim Yazdani, 204 patients have been undergoing treatment in the Covid unit and ICU of RMCH as of Sunday and 75 of them are Covid-19 positive.

Among the patients, 93 are from Chapainawabganj, 84 from Rajshahi, 10 from Natore, 7 from Naogaon, 3 from Pabna, and 3 from Kushtia.

Currently, around fifteen people are being treated at the ICU of the hospital's Covid facility.
