Police prevents public gatherings, movement in Chattogram

The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has been conducting drives in the port city to prevent public gatherings and the movement of people and vehicles.

Since restrictions on the movement of people and all transportation were imposed on Monday, the CMP has set up check posts – at the city's five entry points – to bar the entry of all vehicles except those of the emergency services.

Additionally, police have been conducting drives at locations where people socialize and spend their free time in the city.

On Wednesday, the CMP conducted drives in different areas of the city including the: New Market, Kotwali, Chawkbazar, Muradpur, Wasa, Tigerpass, Bahaddarhat, Panchlaish, Agrabad, Patenga areas.

Officer-in-charge of Akbar Shah police station Mostafizur Rahman said no vehicles have been allowed to enter or leave the city except those carrying consumer goods and providing emergency services.

Officer-in-charge of Kotwali police station Md Mohosin said, "We are working as per the directives of the CMP. Mobile teams are patrolling in the city streets and lanes. No one is allowed to get out on the street without an urgent need."

CMP Commissioner Mahabubur Rahman said, "Everything except the emergency services are shut down in the city to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus. People have been ordered to stay at home. Field level officials have been asked to implement these instructions strictly."

"Action will be taken according to the law if anybody does not follow the instructions," he added.
