Police will get stricter with its enforcement of the new nationwide lockdown that will come into force on Monday, said Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Shafiqul Islam.

"People came out of their homes showing various excuses during lockdown last year. But we will be stricter this time," he told The Business Standard today hours after government announced to enforce fresh lockdown to curb Covid-19 spread.

"None will be allowed to breach lockdown and hygiene rules," the DMP chief added.

He further said that police will have a meeting in this regard on Sunday to make a plan on implementing the lockdown reviewing experience of last year.

Earlier in the day, Bangladesh government imposed a 7-day countrywide lockdown, starting from Monday, primarily as Covid-19 situation has taken a very dangerous turn here.
