Planning minister highlights government’s Covid-19 responses at UN forum
Thirty-one initiatives, stimulus and compensation packages of the government for the Covid-19-hit people underscored
Planning Minister MA Mannan on Sunday presented the government's actions to tackle Covid-19 to the representatives of eight countries.
MA Mannan underscored 31 initiatives, stimulus and compensation packages of the government for the Covid-19-hit people at the United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Representatives from Nepal, Georgia, Benin, Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, India and Morocco participated at the online meeting hosted from New York.
MA Mannan presided over the meeting while Chief Coordinator for SDG Affairs at the Prime Minister's Office Zuena Aziz and Planning Commission Member Dr Shamsul Alam also participated in the discussion.
At the meeting, representatives of other countries said, "Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is moving in the right direction to tackle Covid-19."
While referring to the recent development of the country, MA Mannan also said that Bangladesh achieved progress in poverty reduction, eradication of hunger, reduction of infant and maternal mortality.
"Gender parity has been achieved in primary and secondary education. Also, about 95 percent of people have access to electricity now."
MA Mannan also talked about Bangladesh's progress in gross domestic product growth, social security and achievement towards meeting the SDGs.
