Police will not allow anyone to enter or leave Dhaka city in a move to contain the coronavirus spread.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general of police, said, "We are not allowing any people to enter into Dhaka city or to leave until further notice from the government. Only the emergency services will be out of purview of the restrictions."

The police official further said, police seek cooperation of the citizens and all concerned for the proper implementation of the directives and health instructions to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

With the directives, Dhaka is now totally cut off from the other parts of the country.

Sources said, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal called police's IGP on Saturday night to impose the restrictions after thousands of garment workers reached Dhaka posing a great risk of coronavirus spread in the capital.

So far, a total of nine people have died from the deadly virus in the country and 88 people have been tested positive.
