Two sons have abandoned their father in their village home in Pabna after bringing him there from Chattogram in a sack on suspicion of being infected with the novel coronavirus.

The incident took place in Chatmohar upazila of Pabna early Wednesday.

The distance from Chattogram to Pabna is nearly 400 kilometres and it was more than 10 hours of perilous journey for the elderly man in the sack.

Chaikola UP Chairman Nazrul Islam confirmed the matter to The Business standard and said, "The father - Rafiq Musulli - lived with his two sons Russell Musulli and Zahid Musulli in Chattogram's Majhir Hat area."

"His sons put him in a sack and left at their village house in Pabna when Rafiq Musulli fell ill on May 25. He died shortly afterwards," the UP chairman said.

He was later buried at the local cemetery at around 3pm with the help of villagers, he added.

Confirming the matter, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Chatmohar Police Station Sheikh Mohammad Nasir Uddin said, "He was not infected with the deadly coronavirus. He was a patient of diabetes and asthma.
