Govt prepares hospital to treat Covid-19 positive officials
Currently, the government officials can give samples for coronavirus test as soon as they start showing symptoms of Covid-19
Sarkari Karmachari Hospital at the capital's Fulbaria is being prepared to treat the government officials, who are infected with Covid-19.
The hospital authorities will start the patient admission procedures from next week, sources at the Ministry of Public Administration and Sarkari Karmachari Hospital told The Business Standard.
Currently, the government officials can give samples for coronavirus test as soon as they start showing symptoms of Covid-19.
Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration Md Didarul Alam has been tasked to coordinate the sample collection and Covid-19 testing.
Besides this, the government also opened four control room. Three doctors are working on these control rooms.
Deputy Secretary Mohammad Kamal Hossen from the Ministry of Public Administration said that 62 beds at the Sarkari Karmachari Hospital are being prepared to treat government officials. The admission procedures are expected to begin on Saturday.
"However, it may take an additional day or two if the pending works don't get completed in time," he added.
Deputy Director of Sarkari Karmachari Hospital Dr Md Shah Alam said, "A team of specialists of Dhaka Medical College will visit the hospital to evaluate the arrangements. They will determine if the hospital is ready to treat Covid-19 patients or not."
Dr Md Shah Alam also said that the hospital authorities are still working on preparing the hospital for Covid-19 patients and they will be able to admit patients from the beginning of next week if everything finishes on time.
Sarkari Karmachari Hospital (formerly known as Railway Karmachari Hospital) was handed over to the Ministry of Public Administration in 2012.
