Dr Mushtuq urges for field hospital
Field hospitals need to be set up for providing effective treatment to the marginalised patients with Covid-19, Dr Mohammad Mushtuq Husain, adviser to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research, said at a programme on Sunday.
Building such hospitals is possible within a short time and with very limited technology, he said.
"We usually see conditions of Covid-19 patients deteriorate 14 days after they are kept in isolation. So, institutional quarantine should be made available for them. That is why field hospital is important as doctors will be available there," he said.
The pandemic spike may reach the trend of New York and Italy. Dhaka, Narayanganj, Chattogram and Gazipur are most vulnerable areas. It is alarming," he added.
"Bangladesh was in a good position but the recent negligence of all quarters of people contributed to the virus surge again. We thought that the pandemic left the country and we started attending rallies, social programmes and other gatherings," Dr Mohammad Mushtuq said.
Actually, no initiative will be effective if the people are not aware of the pandemic. The health guidelines issued by the World Health Organisation and the health ministry must be followed strictly. Otherwise, it will not be possible to stem the virus, Mushtuq Husain added.
He also urged the government to involve local representatives and young people in raising awareness.
