Amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Cox's Bazar deputy commissioner has handed over financial aid to 433 small tourism-related businesses in the area.
Deputy Commissioner Md Kamal Hossain, also president of the district beach management committee, distributed the aid among the beneficiaries at Laboni Point in the district on Thursday.
"Our initiative to help these small businesses will continue in the future" he said.
The businesses that received the aid centre on the world's largest sea beach.
All of these small businesses are in a halt since the beginning of the coronavirus outbreak in the country. With no income for more than four months, the families that relied on these businesses are spending their days in uncertainty.
Giyas Uddin, one of the businessmen receiving the aid, said, "The amount of the aid is small, but the initiative is big. This will surely help us at this time of crisis."
"The district administration has taken the initiative and the aids were provided on behalf of the Beach Management Committee," Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate (Tourism Cell) Imran Jahid told The Business Standard.
Among others, Additional Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Masudur Rahman Molla, District Awami League's President Advocate Sirajul Mostafa, Police Super of Cox's Bazar Tourist Police Md Zillur Rahman were present during the handover of financial aid.
