In the fight against Covid-19, a large number of frontline workers are contracting the lethal disease and the doctors, nurses and other healthcare staff are the most infected.
The latest data of the Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) shows that around 8,184 health workers have been infected by the novel coronavirus.
The data revealed that 2,903 doctors have been infected by the deadly virus till Tuesday across 64 districts. During the same period, 1,990 nurses also contracted the virus.
Besides, other medical staff such as attendants and cleaners are the highest infected among the healthcare workers. So far 3,291 medical staff, other than doctors and nurses, have been infected.
The BMA also published the list of doctors who lost their lives throughout the pandemic.
In combatting the deadly disease, 136 doctors succumbed to it till 15 April 2020. Three of them were dental surgeons.
Until Tuesday, the total death tally from the disease reached 9,384 with an overall fatality rate of 1.44%.
The total Covid-19 infection count is 6,51,652 with an overall infection rate of 13.44%.
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
On Monday (5 April), the government imposed a 7-day lockdown to curb the spread of the virus.
