The number of daily infections further rose on Tuesday as 3,319 more people contracted the virus in the last 24 hours. 

Up from 3,050 daily cases reported a day ago, today's infections are the highest in 53 days.

With Tuesday's additions, the infection tally reached 8,33,291 in the country and the positivity rate was at 14.27% during the preceding 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the country logged 50 more deaths from Covid-19, which pushed the death toll to 13,222. The death rate was recorded at 1.59% during this same period.

Also, 23,265 samples were tested in 512 labs across the country. 

Among the latest day's victims, 30 were men, and 20 were women. Of the victims, 48 died in different hospitals across the country and one died at home while one died on way to hospital. 

Moreover, 15 each of the deceased hailed from the Rajshahi and Khulna divisions, six each from Dhaka and Chattogram, three each from Mymensingh and Sylhet, and one each from Rangpur and Barishal divisions.

Also, 2,243 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with a 92.53% recovery rate.

The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 9,507 of the total deceased across the country were men and 3,715 were women.

The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.

India registered 60,471 cases of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the last 24 hours, along with 2726 Covid-19 related deaths, the Union ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) said on Tuesday morning. With this, the national tally of coronavirus cases has risen to 29,570,881, including a related death toll of 377,031, Tuesday's data showed, reports Hindustan Times.

As of Tuesday, 3,828,480 people globally succumbed to the viral disease and so far 177,058,825 people contracted the virus, according to data provided by Worldometer.
