Bangladesh today confirmed 30 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 1,356 new cases of infection testing 4,249 samples in the last 24 hours.
During the period, the rate of infection against total tests stood at 31.91 percent -- the highest single-day infection rate since the maiden coronavirus cases were reported in the country on March 8 this year. The daily infection rate fluctuated in between 20 to 25% in past few weeks.
With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 3,154 and the number of total infections stood at 242,102.
"Besides, some 1,066 patients have recovered during the time, increasing the tally to 1,37,905," Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today."Of the dead patients, 25 are men and five women. Moreover, 15 of them are hailed from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, four from Khulna, Rajshahi three and one each from Rangpur, Mymensingh and Sylhet division," Additional Director General (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr Nasima Sultana revealed the latest figures during the daily virtual health bulletin today.
"27 of them have died in different hospitals and three at their respective homes."
The gender-wise analysis of the victims disclosed that some 2,504 men have died from Covid-19 and 680 are women.
Dr Nasima Said, "Some 4,238 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 4,249 were tested in 82 labs across the country. So far 11,93,544 samples have been tested."
District-wise, out of 3,184 fatalities till date, 1,520 are hailed from Dhaka division, 770 percent from Chattogram, 233 from Khulna, 6.02 percent or 193 from Rajshahi, 153 from Sylhet, 126 from Barishal, 120 from Rangpur, and 69 from Mymensingh.
According to the age group analysis of Covid-19 victims as of today, the highest number of patients - 1,483 - died till date are aged sixty and above. The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with respectively 913 and 442 people. Rest of the age groups stand under, age group 31-40 with 209 people, 21-30 with 87, 11-20 with 32 and under ten with 0.58 percent (18).
Currently, 54,854 people are quarantined across the country – including 999 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 4,40,132 people have completed their quarantine course.
Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 468 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation. 18,825 are isolated in different units across the country. Till now 52,273 people put in the isolation units."
As many as 18,110,930 hotline health services were given by 16,498 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 68,759 in the last 24-hour.
Via the telemedicine service, everyday a total of 100 doctors and health officials in two shifts are providing Covid-19 advice, that has been availed by 156,230 people till date including 2,031 in the last 24 hours.
"Till date, a total of 7,98,532 screening were conducted at different ports, including- 973 at airports, 82 at seaports and 21 at land ports in the past 24 hours," she added.
There are 15,240 general dialysis beds in the country for Covid-19 treatment where 3,867 people are admitted and 11,373 beds are available for the treatment. Moreover, there are 555 ICU facilities in the country and 239 ICU beds are available for the treatment of coronavirus infected patients in the country.
The virus has killed 692,978 people globally and infected 18,246,545 so far.
