Covid-19 infection, death rate increase in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has confirmed 26 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Sunday 8am.
The death toll now stands at 4,939 while the death rate is 1.42%, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The Covid-19 death rate has been steadily increasing in the country in recent days. Meanwhile, even though the infection rate was showing a downward trend in the last couple of days, it showed a slight increase on Sunday.
From September 1 to 5, the Covid-19 death rate was 1.37% while it was 1.38% in the next three days. From September 9 to 11, the death rate was 1.39%. This rate was 1.40% between September 12 and 14, and 1.41% from September 15 to 19.
In the 24-hour period, 1,544 people tested positive for the novel coronavirus, bringing the infection tally to 348,916.
The latest daily infection rate is 13.32% while the overall rate stood at 19.16%. The daily infection rate has increased again after 12 days. The rate had hovered around 11-12% from September 8 to 19.
Among the deceased patients, 17 were men and nine were women. Moreover, 19 of them hailed from Dhaka, four from Chattogram and one each from Rajshahi, Khulna and Rangpur divisions.
Twenty-four of them died in different hospitals and two at their respective residences.
Besides, 2,179 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the 24-hour period. The total number of recoveries has reached 256,565 while the recovery rate is 73.53%.
Around 10,787 samples were collected in the 24-hour period, and 11,591 were tested in 97 labs across the country. So far 1,821,270 samples have been tested in Bangladesh.
The gender breakdown of deceased Covid-19 victims shows that 3,846 of the total were men and the rest were women.
The data related to division-wise fatalities show 2,423 hailed from Dhaka, 1,026 from Chattogram, 416 from Khulna, 330 from Rajshahi, 232 from Rangpur, 221 from Sylhet, 184 from Barishal and 107 from Mymensingh.
