Covid-19 deaths near 2,500-mark
Around 54.5% of patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have so far recovered, 1.27% died

With 39 more deaths from Covid-19 and 2,733 new cases of infection reported in the 24 hours until Thursday morning, the total number of deaths from the dreaded virus rose to 2,496 in Bangladesh.
The tally of total cases has reached 196,323 in the country.
Confirming the matter in a virtual briefing on Thursday, Additional Director General of Health Directorate Professor Dr Nasima Sultana said, "Among the dead patients, 31 are men and 8 women.
"Moreover, 18 of them hailed from Dhaka, six each from Chattogram and Khulna, three each from Rangpur and Sylhet, two from Barishal, and one from Rajshahi division."
Thirty-five of them have died in different hospitals and four at their respective homes.
Dr Nasima further said some 13,548 samples were collected in the 24-hour period and 12,889 were tested in 80 labs across the country. So far, 993,291 samples have been tested.
Besides, 1,940 patients recovered from the virus during the time and now the total number of cured patients stands at 106,963.
The gender-wise analysis of the victims disclosed that some 1,971 people who have died from Covid-19 are males and 525 are females, which are 78.97% and 21.03% respectively.
Around 54.48 percent of novel coronavirus patients – both symptomatic and asymptomatic – have recovered in Bangladesh so far, while 1.27 percent died.
In the 24-hour period, the infection rate was 21.20 percent of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 19.76 percent.
Currently, 60,812 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,439 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 342,457 people have completed their quarantine course.
The country is capable of accommodating 31,991 people at 629 institutional quarantine facilities across the country.
"The authorities placed 867 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 18,031 after 21,916 were released," said Nasima Sultana.
1,776 deaths from Covid-19 symptoms
A total of 1,776 deaths from Covid-19 like symptoms have been recorded in the country. Some 80 people have died in the last week, says a report of Bangladesh Peace Observatory (BPO), a project of Center for Genocide Studies of Dhaka University.
The BPO has been publishing the report on a regular basis since the first death from Covid-19 was recorded in Bangladesh.
The DGHS regularly discloses the death and new cases tally from Covid-19, but it does not record deaths with Covid-19 symptoms.
