Covid-19 deaths exceed 8,000 in Bangladesh

Bangladesh has reported 22 more deaths from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in the last 24 hours, until 8am Saturday, while 436 people have tested positive for the virus.

The latest day's infection rate was 3.92% of the total tests and the death rate stands at 1.51%.
At least 338 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 4,75,899 with an 89.57% recovery rate.
Among the latest day's victims, 17 were men and five were women. All of them died at different hospitals across the country.
Eighteen of them hailed from Dhaka, three from Chattogram and one from Barishal division.
Meanwhile, 11,007 samples were tested in 200 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 35,41,389 samples have been tested in the country so far.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 6,064 of the total deceased were men and 1,939 were women.
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
