Covid-19 claims 60 more lives; highest in 43 days
Death toll increased to 13,282 and the fatality rate stood at 1.59%
Bangladesh continued to witness an upward trend in Covid-19 cases as the virus claimed 60 more lives and infected another 3,956 people in the last 24 hours.
Today's number of fatalities was the highest in the last 43 days, with the country seeing 61 deaths on 4 May.
An official 50 deaths were recorded yesterday.
The country's death toll increased to 13,282 and the fatality rate stood at 1.59%, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services.
Along with new cases, the tally of total caseload reached 8,37,247 today, while the positivity rate stood at 16.62%.
The country's first cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
Also, 23,807 samples were tested in 513 labs across the country.
Among the latest day's victims, 36 were men, and 24 were women. Of the victims, 55 died in different hospitals across the country and five died at home.
Moreover, 17 of the deceased hailed from Rajshahi, 14 from Khulna, eight each from Dhaka and Chattogram, three from Mymensingh, six from Sylhet, and four from Rangpur divisions.
In the last 24 hours, 2,679 patients recovered, registering a 92.42% recovery rate.
The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 9,543 of the total deceased across the country were men and 3,739 were women.
As of Wednesday, 3,839,931 people globally succumbed to the viral disease and so far 177,470,620people contracted the virus, according to data provided by Worldometer.
