Bangladesh has recorded five more deaths from the novel coronavirus – and 407 new cases – in the last 24 hours till Saturday at 8am.
 
The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 8,400, while the number of positive cases has reached 5,45,831, said a press statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
 
Of the total tests, the latest day's infection rate was 3.30%, though the overall positivity rate in the country till date was 13.54%.

The overall fatality rate in the country now stands at 1.54%.

Among the latest day's victims, four were men and one was a woman. Of them, four hailed from Dhaka and one from the Chattogram division.

All the deceased died while undergoing treatment in different hospitals across the country.

Meanwhile, 12,348 samples were tested in 214 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 40,30,616 samples have so far been tested in the country.

A total of 609 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 4,96,107 with a recovery rate of 90.89%.

The country's maiden Covid-19 cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
