Bangladesh reports 45 Covid deaths, new cases lowest in 55 days

Bangladesh reported 1,285 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, which is the lowest in 55 days.
On 14 March, the country reported 1,159 infections and the number of daily infections continued to rise since then.
Meanwhile, the country reported 45 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the total death count to 11878.
The fatality rate was recorded at 1.54% during the period, said a media statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Besides, the positivity rate came 8.78% in the last 24 hours after testing 14,703 samples in 443 labs across the country.
Among the latest day's victims, 26 were men, and 19 were women. All the victims died in different hospitals across the country.
Moreover, 21 of the deceased hailed from the Dhaka Division, 13 from Chattogram, three from Khulna, two each from Barishal, Sylhet and one each from Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions.
Also, 2,492 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the last 24 hours, with a 91.54% recovery rate.
The Covid-19 victims' gender breakdown shows that 8,615 of the total deceased across the country were men and 3,263 were women.
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
India reported 401,078 fresh infections of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) and 4,000 deaths due to the virus on Saturday, according to the Union health ministry dashboard at 8am. With this, the country's cumulative infections went up to 37,23,446 and the toll was pushed to 2.38 lakh.
Covid-19 has claimed 3,285,811 lives worldwide and infected 157,600,825 so far, according to the data provided by Worldometer.
