Covid-19 death toll reaches 7,531
1,235 people tested positive in 24 hours
Bangladesh logged 22 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Wednesday 8am.
The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 7,531, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In the meantime, 1,235 people tested positive for Covid-19. The number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 512,496.
The latest day's infection rate was 8.11% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country to date was 15.94%. The death rate stands at 1.47%.
A total of 1,507 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 456,070 with an 88.99% recovery rate.
Among the latest day's victims, 16 were men and six were women. All of them died in different hospitals across the country.
Moreover, 11 of them hailed from Dhaka, five from Chattogram, one each from Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal and Sylhet divisions, and two from Mymensingh.
Meanwhile, 15,229 samples were tested in 180 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 3,214,344 samples have been tested in the country so far.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 5,833 of the total deceased were men and 1,798 were women.
The country's first Covid-19 case was reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
