Bangladesh has reported 13 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till 8am Friday.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 7,862, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services.

In the meantime, 762 people have tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 5,26,485.

The latest day's infection rate was 5.57% though the overall rate in the country till date was 15.34%. The death rate stands at 1.49%.

As many as 718 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 4,71,123 with an 89.48% recovery rate.

Among the latest day's victims, nine were men and four were women. Twelve of them died in different hospitals across the country while one died at home.

Moreover, 10 of them hailed from Dhaka, one each from Rajshahi, Khulna and Rangpur.

Meanwhile, 13,678 samples were tested in 180 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 34,31,792 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows 5,963 of the total deceased were men and 1,899 were women.

The country's first Covid-19 case was reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
