The death toll from the deadly virus rose to 5,093
Bangladesh has confirmed 21 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 1,383 new cases of infection in the last 24 hours until Friday 8am.
With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 5,093, and the number of total infections stood at 356,767, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The latest day's infection rate was 11.09% while the overall infection rate was 18.90%, and death rate stands at 1.43%.
In the same period, 12,593 samples were collected and 12,473 were tested in 103 laboratories across the country. So far, 1,888,010 samples have been tested in the country.
Some 1,932 patients have recovered from Covid-19 in the past 24 hours, and the total number of recoveries reached 267,024. The recovery rate currently stands at 74.85%.
Of the deceased, 14 were men and seven were women. Besides, 16 of them hailed from Dhaka, two from Chattogram, one each from Rajshahi, Khulna and Rangpur divisions. All of them have died in different hospitals, reads the DGHS statement.
So far, 3,949 men and 1,144 women have died from Covid-19 across the country.
Some 2,523 of the deceased hailed from Dhaka division; 1,052 from Chattogram; 428 from Khulna; 336 from Rajshahi; 237 from Rangpur; 224 from Sylhet; 186 from Barishal; and 107 from Mymensingh.
The country's first cases were detected on March 8 this year. The first death from the virus was reported 10 days later, on March 18.
