A Chinese national flag flies at half-mast to mourn for martyrs who died in the fight against the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak and compatriots died of the disease at Tian'anmen Square in Beijing, capital of China.

Bangladesh joined with China expressing deep condolences for the loss of lives due to the outbreak of coronavirus in Wuhan city and other places as China is observing Mourning Day on Saturday remembering the martyrs.

"I'm very touched," said Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen in a message to his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi expressing his sincere sympathy for the families of the victims.

China is observing Mourning Day today (Saturday) for the martyrs who died in fight against the fatal COVID-19 pandemic and compatriots died of coronavirus outbreak.

Dr Momen said the people and the government of Bangladesh are with the friendly people of China and the Chinese  government to address this crisis.

He thanked the Chinese  government for taking well care of a good number of Bangladeshi citizens living in China at this tragic moment of coronavirus outbreak.

Dr Momen wished good health, long life and happiness of his Chinese counterpart.

He also wished the "great country" China continued peace, progress and prosperity.

During the commemoration, national flags will fly at half-mast across China and in all Chinese embassies and consulates abroad, and public recreational activities will remain suspended across the country, according to Xinhua.

At 10am (Chinese time) on Saturday, Chinese people nationwide are scheduled to observe three minutes of silence to mourn for the deceased, while air raid sirens and horns of automobiles, trains and ships will wail in grief.

As of Thursday, a total of 81,620 confirmed cases of COVID-19 had been reported on the Chinese mainland, and 3,322 people had died of the disease.
