The Chinese government has kept prepared six lakh doses of the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine for Bangladesh, according to Hualong Yan, minister counselor & deputy chief of mission (DCM) at the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in Bangladesh.

The consignment of the vaccine shots is expected to be delivered by 13 June.

It will be provided as a gift on behalf of the Chinese government.

Earlier in May, China gifted five lakh doses of its Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine to Bangladesh.

On 25 May, about 500 students from four medical colleges were administered the vaccine on an experimental basis. Later, Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) administered the Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine to more than 450 Chinese citizens.

Last month, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said that Dhaka has placed its orders for June, July, and August as Sinopharm produces the shots after getting the orders.
