Chief of Army Staff General Aziz Ahmed on Thursday thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for letting the Bangladesh Army stand beside the people during the Covid-19 pandemic.
He made the statement while delivering a speech before the army personnel holding different ranks regarding the ongoing coronavirus situation in the country, cyclone Amphan and other important matters, said a press release issued by the Inter Service Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).
The Army Chief delivered his speech at a Darbar through VTC to all the cantonments of the country following the health guidelines the release added.
General Aziz said, "The honorable prime minister has declared a war against the coronavirus. As soldiers we have solely dedicated ourselves to ensure the welfare of the country and its people following government orders.
"I thank Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on behalf of all army staff to let us provide our services to the people during this ongoing crisis."
General Aziz lauded the hard work and humane attitude of all the doctors, health workers and members of all ranks of the army involved in dealing with the coronavirus crisis in Bangladesh.
He also thanked the staff for their relentless efforts to stand beside the people of the areas that were damaged by cyclone Amphan.
He also extended his gratitude to the Prime Minister for engaging the Bangladesh Army in various nation building activities like construction of building the N-8 Excess Controlled Expressway and other important works.
The Army Chief highlighted resolving the accommodation problem of the Army personnel, introducing the life insurance schemes and creating employments for the destitute freedom fighters and retired army personnel and other welfare-oriented activities.
General Aziz extended his heartfelt gratitude towards Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her farsighted steps and constant support as well as listed the government's various steps towards building a capable Army in light of the "Forces Goal 2030".
He asked all the members of Bangladesh Army to follow the chain of command and not to get misled by any kind of rumour.
He directed the members of the army to remain on alert like in the past against any propaganda or ill attempt and said that the Bangladesh Army is pledge-bound to perform its duties being accountable to the government, constitution of the country and its people
Lastly, the Army Chief asked the members of Bangladesh Army to remain prepared to make any kind of sacrifice for safeguarding the independence and sovereignty of the country being permeated with the spirit of patriotism and the Liberation War of 1971.
