The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday filed a case against the chairman and two members of a union parishad in Shariatpur for allegedly embezzling government rice.

ACC Spokesman Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

He said, the anti-graft body sued BM Nasir Uddin Swapan, chairman of Kuchaipotti UP in Gosairhat upazila. Mofassel Bepary, member from ward no. 3, and Shamim Bepary, member from ward no. 9 of the same union were also accused in the case.

Komolesh Mondal, assistant director of ACC Faridpur district office, filed the case.

According to the case statement, Chairman Nasir Uddin along with two members of the UP embezzled 1,590 kilograms of rice meant for distribution among fishermen under the government's vulnerable group feeding (VGF) programme.
