Businessman dies of coronavirus at Narayanganj

A hosiery businessman has died of the novel coronavirus at Narayanganj on Saturday morning.

The deceased was a 55 year-old male and a resident of Suchintanagar area of Kashipur Union.

Confirming the matter to The Business Standard, Narayanganj Civil Surgeon Dr Md Imtiaz said, "The man died of coronavirus while undergoing treatment in Kurmitola Hospital. Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research IEDCR (IEDCR) confirmed the matter at Saturday night."

"After the confirmation of his death from coronavirus, more than 300 houses of Suchintanagr and Aambagan area have been locked down at midnight," said Upazila Nirbahi Officer Nahida Barik.

The deceased's son informed that his father had been suffering from respiratory problem and cough for last two days. He was taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital when his health condition deteriorated. From there he was shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

DMCH later advised to take the patient to Kurmitola hospital, where they admitted him on Friday evening. The patient died on Saturday morning. Later the official from IEDCR came to test and informed the patient had coronavirus.

 "My father was buried at Khilgaon graveyard under IEDCR supervision," the son added.

Upazila Health Officer and District Corona Focal Dr Zahidur Rahman said, "We also got a death certificate through Facebook. The locals also informed us."

"We went the area with medical team and locked down 300 houses in two areas," he added.

Earlier, another woman of Narayanganj's Rasulpur died of coronavirus on March 30. On April 2, it was confirmed that she died of coronavirus after testing her samples.

With this, the death toll at Narayanganj due to coronavirus rises to two.

IEDCR so far confirmed eight deaths from the virus in the country.
