Barisal district administration has assigned seven residential hotels, including three 3-star hotels, in Barisal municipality to provide safe habitation for Covid-19 dedicated doctors, nurses, lab technologists and other health officials.

The hotels are: Hotel Grand Park Barisal, Hotel Sedona International, Hotel Arena Barisal, Hotel Athena, Hotel Eastern, Hotel Ali International and Hotel Rodela International.

Ten doctors have started to reside at Hotel Grand Park from May 1, and 27 at Hotel Sedona International. Others will gradually follow suit.

SM Ajior Rahman, deputy commissioner of Barisal, said "As frontline fighters, the health officials are working under the highest risk of contacting coronavirus, therefore we have initiated special bus service and hotel residency facility to alleviate the risk of community transmission by them."

Moreover, a dedicated coronavirus unit has been operating at the new annex building of Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital since March 9.

SM Bakir Hossain, director of Barisal Sher E Bangla Medical College Hospital, said, "Seven teams, including seven doctors, four nurses and one cleaner, are working at the hospital's corona-unit."
