Bangladesh sees single-day highest 21 deaths from Covid-19, 1,602 new cases

Bangladesh today confirmed highest single-day 21 deaths from the novel coronavirus and 1,602 new cases of infection testing 9,788 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 349 and the number of total infections stood at 23,870. Some 212 patients recovered during this time.

"17 of the dead patients are male and four female. 12 of them are from Dhaka Division, seven from Chattogram and one each from Rajshahi and Sylhet. 15 of them died at hospitals and four died at their houses," Additional Director General of Health Directorate Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.

According to the latest data by DGHS, 19.21% coronavirus infected patients have recovered and some 1.46% succumbed to Covid-19.

Currently, 50,088 people are quarantined across the country – including 3,412 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 193,872 people have completed their quarantine course.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 231 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, bringing the total to 3,383 after 1,700 left."

"The country is capable of accommodating 9,134 people at 601 isolation wards and 31,840 people at 626 institutional quarantine facilities," she added.

Moreover, there are 339 ICU facilities and 102 dialysis beds available for the treatment of coronavirus infected patients in the country.

As many as 6,028,753 hotline health services were given by 16,001 trained and 4,173 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 216,280 in last 24-hour till 8am today. 

Till date, a total of 690,102 thermal screenings were conducted at different ports, including 390 at airports, 124 at seaports and 612 at land ports in the last 24 hours.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) collected by the government has been 2,328,012, of which 1,936,272 were distributed and 391,740 are left in store.

The virus has killed 316,860 people globally and infected 4,815,707 so far.
