Bangladesh reports record-high 6,830 Covid-19 cases, 50 deaths
The infection rate stands at 23.28% of the total test
Bangladesh yet again saw the biggest daily surge in Covid cases with 6,830 new single day infections reported till Friday 8am.
With an alarming 23.28% single-day infection rate, the tally has so far reached 6,24,594 in the country.
The country also saw 50 new fatalities, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
The death toll now stands at 9,155 with a 1.47% fatality rate in the country.
Among the latest day's victims, 40 were men and 10 were women. Forty-nine of them died in different hospitals across the country, while one at home.
Of the deceased, 36 of them hailed from Dhaka, seven from Chattogram, three Khulna, and two each from Rajshahi and Sylhet division.
Meanwhile, 29,339 samples were tested in 226 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 47,28,113 samples have been tested in the country so far.
Also, 2,473 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 547,411 with an 87.64% recovery rate.
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March last year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
Neighbouring India recorded 81,466 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours which took the nationwide tally to 1.23 crore, the health ministry said. India also reported 469 fatalities which is the highest since 6 December.
As of Friday, the number of Covid-19 infected people has risen to 130,305,700 worldwide and the fatalities now stand at 2,842,446, according to Worldometer.
