Covid-19 death toll crosses 2,800
Almost half of those who have died from Covid-19 so far were aged 60 and above

Bangladesh on Thursday confirmed 50 more deaths from the novel coronavirus, which took the total fatalities from the deadly virus to 2,801 and the death rate to 1.30 percent.
Additionally, 2,856 people tested positive for Covid-19 between Wednesday 8am and Thursday 8am, reports the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). With this, total infections in the country stood at 216,110 while infection rate for the day was 23.04 percent.
The total infection rate stands at 20.03 percent, DGHS Additional Director General Professor Dr Nasima Sultana said during the daily virtual health bulletin on Thursday.
Of the 12,092 samples collected in the last 24 hours, 12,398 were tested in 80 labs across the country. So far 1,079,007 samples have been tested in total.
"Of the deceased, 41 are men and nine are women. Twenty of them hailed from Dhaka, seven each from Rangpur and Khulna, six from Rajshahi, five from Chattogram, four from Barishal, and one from Sylhet division," Dr Nasima added.
Forty-seven of them died in different hospitals and three in their respective homes.
An analysis of Covid-19 victims' age groups till Thursday reveals that the highest number of deceased patients, 45.04 percent or 1,262, were aged 60-and-above. The age groups of 51-60 and 41-50 come next with respectively 29.35 percent (822) and 14.17 percent (397) deaths.
Rest of the age groups stand below 7 percent; the 31-40 age group had 6.78 percent (190) deaths, 21-30 age group had 2.93 percent (82) deaths, the 11-20 age group had 1.07 percent (30) deaths, and those under 10 represented 0.64 percent fatalities.
Gender-wise analysis of the victims shows that 2,209 people who have died from Covid-19 are male and 592 are female, which is 78.86 percent and 21.14 percent, respectively.
District-wise, out of 2,801 fatalities till date, 48.59 percent or 1,361 hailed from Dhaka division, 25.03 percent or 701 from Chattogram, 6.71 percent or 188 from Khulna, 5.64 percent or 158 from Rajshahi, 4.61 percent or 129 from Sylhet, 3.78 percent or 106 from Barishal, 3.57 percent or 100 from Rangpur, and 2.07 percent or 58 from Mymensingh.
Besides, some 2,006 patients have recovered during the 24-hour period, increasing the tally to 119,208 and the recovery rate stood at around 55.16 percent
