Bangladesh reports 22 more deaths from coronavirus, 1541 new cases

Bangladesh today confirmed 22 more deaths from the novel coronavirus and 1,541 new cases of infection testing 8,015 samples in the last 24 hours.

With this, the death toll from the deadly virus rose to 544 and the number of total infections stood at 38,292.

"Some 346 patients have recovered from the virus during this time, increasing the total cured patients to 7,925," Additional Director General of Health Directorate Nasima Sultana made the disclosure during a virtual briefing today.

The virus has killed 352,476 people globally and infected 5,698,650 so far.

Dr Nasima further said, "20 of the victims were male and two were female. Among the victims, 21 people died in the hospital and rest one died staying in the house."

"7,843 samples were collected during last 24 hours and 8,015 were tested. A total of 266,456 samples have been tested so far," she added.

Currently, 56,696 people are quarantined across the country – including 2,789 newly-quarantined individuals. A total of 271,104 people have completed their quarantine course.

Nasima Sultana said, "The authorities placed 281 new individuals suspected of having Covid-19 into isolation, currently 4,994 people are staying in isolation units across the country."

Moreover, there are 13,264 isolation units available in the country, including 7,250 in Dhaka city. 399 ICU facilities and 106 dialysis beds available for the treatment of coronavirus infected patients in the country.

As many as 80,00,278 hotline health services were given by 16,187 trained and 4,217 volunteer doctors via three designated numbers, including 186,269 in last 24-hour till 8am today.

Till date, a total of 697,930 thermal screenings were conducted at different ports, including 490 at airports, 95 at seaports and 230 at land ports in the last 24 hours.

Personal protective equipment (PPE) collected by the government has been 2,454,737, of which 2,066,334 were distributed and 388,403 are left in store.
