Sheikh Momin Uddin, the second son of Akij Group's founder late Sheikh Akij Uddin, has died from coronavirus infection at Ad-Din Hospital in the capital. He was 63.
Sheikh Momin was the managing director of tannery factory SAF and director of Akij Group.
On August 12, he was admitted to the hospital in Magbajar having been infected with the virus, said SAF General Manager Abul Islam confirming his death.
Sheikh Momin passed SSC from Rajghat Jafarpur High School and BSC from Khulna BL College. He earned a higher degree in leather technology from North Hampton University in England.
In the 1980s, Momin Uddin took charge of the abandoned SAF leather factory at Taltola in Abhaynagar upazila. He then modernized the ailing factory and turned it into the largest leather factory in the country. In 2009, 2010, 2011 he won the National Export Trophy (Gold) for exporting leather and leather products abroad.
