Another nine workers of different readymade garment (RMG) factories have tested positive for the novel coronavirus after they resumed working amid the current pandemic in Savar and Gazipur.

Requesting anonymity, sources at the Industrial Police said among the nine newly infected Covid-19 workers, seven were from Savar and two were from Gazipur.

Three of the infected workers were from Al Muslim Group in Savar. One patient was found at each of the garments named AJI Group, Denitex ltd, Dhaka Dynamic Sweater, and HR Garments in the same area.

Rest of the two patients were from Gazipur-based Park Star Apparels and Shanta Expression ltd.

Earlier, four workers were tested positive for the in Chattogram, Rangpur, Jashore and Pirojpur.

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) President Rubana Huq denied commenting on the issue.

However, the association has sent a statement to media on Saturday that said: "As per the information received, we have sent our representatives and our findings are that the factories have taken necessary steps for treatment and quarantined the suspected workers along with who they came in close contact with."

In its statement, the association emphasised that the factories have followed the prescribed BGMEA protocol.

The BGMEA has also refused to disclose details regarding the workers saying that these were sensitive and private information.
