Corona hotspot Narayanganj has confirmed 84 new cases of the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours (till 8am on Tuesday).

Sadar Upazila Health Officer Jahidul Islam, also the focal person on coronavirus outbreak in Narayanganj, said the number of infected patients doubled than Monday's.

The district confirmed 742 cases till  Tuesday. Among them, 42 died.

Meanwhile, Narayanganj Civil Surgeon Imtiaz Ahmed said the test results of all samples collected during April 21-24 came from the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control And Research (IEDCR) on Tuesday. That's why the infected patients doubled in one day.

He also said the results of the samples sent on April 25-27 did not come.

"We collected samples from the patients who sent SMS to the civil surgeon office's control room, writing about their symptoms," he added.

Forty-four coronavirus patients are currently undergoing treatment in the district's Khanpur 300-Bed Hospital while 30 others are in Sajida Hospital in Shimrail.
