A 72-year-old woman named Sultana Sheikh has died at the coronavirus isolation unit in Khulna Medical College and Hospital (KMCH).

The woman from Kalia upazila in Narail was declared dead by the on-duty doctor at 9:15 am on Sunday.

She was admitted to the coronavirus isolation unit on Friday.

Dr Shoilendranath Biswas, resident doctor (medicine) at KMCH, said, "Sultana Sheikh had tuberculosis (TB). We notified the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) about the matter."

"The IEDCR said there was no need for sample testing. So, we handed over the dead body to the patient's family," added Dr Shoilendranath.

Dr Suzat Ahmed, civil surgeon of Khula district, said, "Sultana Sheikh was a TB patient and that there is no relation between her death and coronavirus."

Earlier, a patient named Mustahidur Rahman died in the KMCH. Panic spread when people heard that he had coronavirus symptoms. The other patients left the hospital.

But afterwards the IEDCR conducted a coronavirus sample test and Mustahidur tested negative.
