6,000 easy bike drivers, rickshaw pullers get food relief in Tangail
While distributing relief items, Tangail deputy commissioner asked the workers not to bring out their vehicles on roads before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Tangail district administration has provided relief among 6,000 easy bike (Battery-run three-wheelers) drivers, rickshaw pullers to mitigate their sufferings due to lockdown enforced to prevent Covid-19 infection.
Md Shahidul Islam, Deputy Commissioner of Tangail, distributed the food items at the Tangail stadium and Shibnath High School playground on Sunday, maintaining social distancing.
Relief items include 10 kilogrammes of rice, 1 kilogramme of lentils, 2 kilogrammes of potatoes, 1 kilogramme of sugar and 1 packet of vermicelli (semai).
While distributing relief items, the deputy commissioner asked the workers not to bring out their vehicles on roads before Eid-ul-Fitr.
Superintendent of Tangail police Sonjit Kumar Roy said, "Legal actions will be taken against those who will bring out vehicles on roads defying the ban."
As the rickshaw and easy bike drivers and their families were in distress due to Covid-19 lockdown enforced in the district since April 7, they started coming out of home with their vehicles, defying health guidelines.
Members of Parliament from Tangail Md Sanowar Hossain and Tanvir Hasan Soto Monir, municipality mayor Jamilur Rahman Miron and panel mayor Saifuzzaman Sohel were present at the programme.
