Over 54 lakh doses of Sinopharm vaccine reach Dhaka

A consignment of over 54 lakh Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccine under the commercial agreement with China arrived in Dhaka in the early hours today.

A Biman flight carrying 54,01,350 shots landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 1:00am.

The vaccine was received under the commercial agreement Bangladesh finalised with China to procure vaccines.

Earlier, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Chinese embassy Hualong Yan confirmed the dispatch of the vaccine lot.

He wrote in a Facebook post, "A strategic partner of Bangladesh, China will always remain the most reliable supplier whatever and whenever our Bangladeshi friend needs."

Bangladesh has so far procured 1.5 crore doses of the Sinopharm vaccine, and those are arriving in the country in phases every month.

The government will procure an additional 6 crore doses of Sinopharm Covid-19 vaccines from China under the Direct Procurement Method (DPM) – as per the price mentioned in the agreement – to bolster the government's efforts to vaccinate the citizens.
