Even though the daily Covid-19 infection rate in the country has decreased in recent weeks, the fatality rate from the novel coronavirus has been increasing for the past several days.

Covid-19 death rate among the infected patients reported on Thursday (September 10) and on September 9 was 1.39%, while it was 1.38% on September 7-8, and 1.37% from August 31 to September 6.

Bangladesh confirmed 41 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours till Thursday at 8 am. 

The coronavirus death toll in the country now stands at 4,634, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last few days, the number of deaths was slightly low but it is now increasing. From August 31 to September 8, daily Covid-19 death counts were below 40, but in the last two consecutive days Bangladesh logged 41 deaths daily.  

The country is now on the 27th week of infection after the first cases were detected on March 8 this year.

The first death was reported 10 days later, on March 18.

In the last 24 hours, 1,892 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 332,970.

The latest day's infection rate was 12.16% of the total tests, while the overall rate in the country to date is 19.70%.

Some 15,642 samples were collected in the last 24 hours and 15,559 were tested in 94 labs across the country. So far, 1,690,011 samples have been tested.

Of the patients who died in the last 24 hours, 31 were men and 10 were women. Moreover, 22 of them hailed from Dhaka, six from Chattogram, five from Rajshahi, three from Khulna, two each from Rangpur and Mymensingh, and one from Sylhet division.

All 41 of the latest victims died in different hospitals.

Meanwhile, 2,746 patients were declared free of the novel coronavirus in the 24 hours and the total number of recoveries reached 233,550 and the recovery rate currently stands at 70.14%.

Division-wise, 2,239 of the infected patients hailed from Dhaka, 984 from Chattogram, 393 from Khulna, 311 from Rajshahi, 220 from Rangpur, 209 from Sylhet, 178 from Barishal, and 100 from Mymensingh.
