Narayanganj authorities are considering turning the 300-bed Khanpur Hospital in the city into a corona unit. The matter is being now discussed with the Health Department.

General patients will receive treatment at Nitaiganj General Hospital.

Additional Deputy Commissioner Selim Reza of Narayanganj confirmed the matter to The Business Standard.

"Narayanganj is the riskiest place in this coronavirus situation. There will be a video conference between the district administration and the principal secretary to the Prime Minister's Office this afternoon. In the conference, I will highlight the issue of opening a corona unit and providing trained doctors, nurses and ward boys on an emergency basis in Narayanganj," said Selim Reza.

The additional deputy commissioner further said the results of Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Md Jasim Uddin's test for the coronavirus came negative.

A doctor and three health workers of the 100-bed hospital's emergency ward tested positive for Covid-19. Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Md Jasim Uddin, Civil Surgeon Dr Mohammad Imtiaz, district corona focal person and other govt officials were in contact with them, and so all of them are now in home quarantine following the suggestion of the IEDCR. Samples were collected from four of them and sent to the IEDCR for examination.

Meanwhile, today is the second day of lockdown in Narayanganj. Police are trying to block public meetings at all entry points to Narayanganj. However, people are coming out for various reasons. Movement of people in the city has increased compared to yesterday.

The law enforcement agencies have been stricter in several areas, including the Narayanganj city, this morning. The IECDR has identified Narayanganj as a cluster. Civil society leaders have demanded setting up of a corona test lab in Narayanganj.

Narayanganj Superintendent of Police Md Zaidul Alam said, "The district administration, police, and other law enforcement agencies have taken the most stringent position to implement the lockdown in Narayanganj and ensure social distancing and tackle the spread of the coronavirus."

So far six people have died of Covid-19 and 46 have been infected in the district.
