Bangladesh reports 29 more Covid-19 deaths, 1,788 new cases

Bangladesh recorded 29 more deaths from the novel coronavirus during the last 24 hours till 8am Sunday.
The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 6,609, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
In the last 24 hours, 1,788 new infections were recorded, taking the number of total infected people to 462,407, reads the press release.
The latest day's infection rate was 13.02% of the total tests. The overall rate in the country to date was 16.77%. The death rate in the country currently stands at 1.43%.
Among the latest day's victims, 23 were men and six were women. All of them died in different hospitals across the country.
Moreover, 23 of them hailed from Dhaka, two each from Chattogram and Rangpur and one each from Rajshahi and Khulna divisions.
Meanwhile, 13,737 samples were tested in 118 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. So far, 27,57,329 samples have been tested in the country.
During the same period, 2,287 patients were declared free of Covid-19, raising the total number of recoveries to 378,172 with an 81.78% recovery rate.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 5,075 of the total deceased were men and 1,534 were women.
The country's first Covid-19 cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
