Bangladesh has registered 20 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 8,023.

The country's death rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.51% says a press statement issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Sunday.

At least 473 new infections were recorded within the period, taking the number of total people infected to 5,31,799.

Out of total tests, the infection rate was 3.34% on the latest day.

Of the 20 deceased, 16 were men and four were women. All the victims passed away in different hospitals across the country, according to the press release.

Moreover, 12 of them hailed from Dhaka division, five from Chattogram, two from Rajshahi and one from Khulna division.

At least 514 people have recovered from the disease over the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of recoveries so far stands at 4,76,413.

Meanwhile, 14,169 samples were tested in 200 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 35,55,558 samples have been tested in the country so far.

The country's first cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
