Bangladesh reports 20 more Covid-19 deaths, 1,441 new cases

Bangladesh confirmed 20 more deaths from the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) in the 24-hour period until Thursday 8am.
The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 5,460, read a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). In this 24-hour period, 1,441 people tested positive for Covid-19, taking the total number of cases to 378,592.
Among the deceased, 13 were men and seven were women. Eleven of them hailed from Dhaka, four from Chattogram, two from Rajshahi and Rangpur each and one from Mymensingh division.
Nineteen of them died in different hospitals and one at their residence.
In that 24 hours, 12,605 samples were tested in 109 labs across the country. With this, 2,039,413 samples have been tested in the country so far. The infection rate on Thursday was 11.43%, whereas the overall rate in the country was 18.37%.
The death rate from Covid-19 presently stands at 1.46%.
In the 24 hours, 1,685 patients recovered from the novel coronavirus, raising the total number of recoveries to 288,316 with a 76.97% recovery rate.
The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows 4,213 of the total deceased were men, and 1,247 were women.
The country's first cases were reported on 8 March this year, while the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
