Bangladesh confirmed 16 more deaths from the novel coronavirus in the last 24 hours.

The country's death toll from the virus now stands at 7,922, said a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

In the last 24 hours, 697 people tested positive for Covid-19 and the number of novel coronavirus cases in the country now stands at 528,329.

The latest day's infection rate was 5.49% of the total tests, though the overall rate in the country till date was 15.22%. The death rate stands at 1.50%.
 
Around 736 patients were declared free of Covid-19 during the same period, raising the total number of recoveries to 4,73,173 with an 89.56% recovery rate.
 
Among the latest day's victims, 12 were men and four were women. All of them died at different hospitals across the country.
 
Moreover, 11 of them hailed from Dhaka, three from Chattogram and one each from Rajshahi and Mymensingh divisions.
 
Meanwhile, 12,707 samples were tested in 199 labs across the country in the past 24 hours. A total of 34,70,160 samples have been tested in the country so far.
 
The gender breakdown of Covid-19 victims shows that 6,004 of the total deceased were men and 1,918 were women.
 
The country's maiden cases were reported on 8 March this year and the first death from the virus was reported on 18 March.
