They are all in isolation in hospitals and at home

Eleven workers of readymade garment (RMG) factories in Gazipur have freshly been diagnosed with Covid-19, bringing the number of coronavirus positive RMG workers in the district to 27.

Gazipur Deputy Commissioner SM Tariqul Islam on Saturday said six out of the 11 newly infected RMG workers belong to the same garment factory. They are all in isolation in hospitals and at home, he added. 

Gazipur Industrial Police Inspector Islam Hossain said those six workers, including two women, work at Alim Knit Ltd factory in Nayapara area under Gazipur City Corporation's Kashimpur police station.

Samples were collected from their body on May 11 for coronavirus test after they had developed Covid-19 symptoms. Their results came out positive on May 14, he added.

Two of the six victims from Alim Knit Ltd are from Nandigram of Bogura district, while the others hail from Rupganj in Narayanganj, Ullapara in Sirajganj, Nalitabari in Sherpur and Gopalpur thana in Tangail.

The couple who had also been infected with the coronavirus work at different factories were from Khalisakuri area of ​​Thakurgaon.

The Gazipur deputy commissioner said three of the newly infected RMG workers are in isolation at Covid-19 dedicated Hospital Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, one at Kuwait-Bangladesh Maitree Hospital, and three at Tongi's Public Health Hospital. Meanwhile, the others are in isolation at their homes.
