A private hospital in Chattogram has closed its intensive care unit and High Dependency Unit after a patient died from pneumonia there.

The deceased Bibi Morium, 36, got admitted to the Royal Hospital Private Ltd with breathing problems on March 19 and died late at that night.

Doctors confirmed that her wife had pneumonia, the victim's husband said.

"The doctor who treated the patient has been sent to home quarantine as a precautionary measure," Manager at the hospital Nurul Amin told The Business Standard.

The district civil surgeon has been informed about the matter, said Nurul Amin.

Hospital's Director Dr Liakat Ali Khan said he was aware of the matter. But it could not be known yet whether the patient was infected with coronavirus, added Liakat.

A team of Chattogram Metropolitan Police visited the hospital, sources said.

The port city has not confirmed any coronavirus case yet, according to government data.
