Maddhapara Granite Mining Company Limited of Dinajpur imported 111 metric tonnes of explosives, in eight trucks, from India through Benapole Land Port on Sunday.
The truck loaded with explosives entered Transhipment Yard No. 31 of Benapole Land Port through the Indian port of Petrapole.
Port sources said the explosives cost $122,472, which is equivalent to Tk1,53,02,582. On 30 December last year, the company imported 120 metric tonnes of explosives in 10 trucks.
A C & F agent, named AS International, released the consignment of explosives from Benapole Land Port. The explosives will be unloaded from Indian trucks and will leave Benapole Land Port for Dinajpur in Bangladeshi trucks.
Mamun Kabir Tarafdar, deputy director (traffic) of Benapole port, said, "Maddhapara Granite Mining Company Limited of Dinajpur imported these explosives from Nagpur, India to conduct excavation work."
"Administrative security measures have been tightened in the port area to avoid untoward incidents. In addition, all measures have been taken to unload the goods quickly" he added.
