FBCCI announces Solveathon contest winners

FBCCI Solveathon Powered by MIT Solve has announced winners, who will be funded to take part in the MIT Solve 2021 Global Challenge.

The winners are Team Aftergrad (Champion), Team Sushastho (1st Runner-up) and Team Krishop (2nd Runner-up), says a press release.

The announcement came on Tuesday during the closing ceremony of The Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry's (FBCCI) Tech C wing initiative.

Sheikh Fazle Fahim, FBCCI president, was the chief guest at the event held online.

On 30 January, a virtual workshop was organised by the FBCCI in collaboration with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Solve.

It was conducted by the FBCCI Tech Center. 

The winners will get funds to participate in the global challenge.

Initially, the Solveathon selected 202 individuals from different districts, including Dhaka, Chattogram, Rajshahi, Sylhet and Khulna.

A total of 20 teams were formed with the participants. Out of which, the best three teams were selected following many tests of their skills.

The participants in the FBCCI Virtual Solveathon competed for four themes of MIT's 2021 Challenge.

The themes are -- Resilient ecosystem: Preserving and strengthening ecosystem services, including carbon mitigation; Health security and pandemics: Protecting people from eclipse; Revisited the learning environment for the next generation; and ​​Digital inclusion for economic justice: Effective solutions to ensure a fair connection of digital commerce and public service for everyone.

Sheikh Fazle Fahim said the event was organised to find talented youths in the country.

"This generation must continue the development of Bangladesh, as they will be part of LDC Graduate Bangladesh, a Bangladesh that has achieved the SDG target, and the developed Bangladesh of 2041," he said.

Shekhar Rajasekharan, managing director and sub-cluster head of Bangladesh and Srilanka, Citybank, and Ambassador MA Abdul Hannan, former adviser to FBCCI, were also present at the programme.

The event was moderated by Sonia Bashir Kabir, adviser to FBCCI.
