Agrani Insurance declares lower cash dividend though profit rises

Agrani Insurance Company Limited has recommended a 5% cash dividend for its shareholders for the year 2020 – though it made more profits compared to the previous year. 

In 2019, its net profit was Tk3.82 crore and earnings per share (EPS) was Tk1.26. It paid a 10% cash dividend that year.

The company's profit rose by 36% in 2020 compared to the previous year, and it recommended a 10% dividend, including 5% cash and 5% stock. 

In 2020, Agrani Insurance made a profit of Tk5.2 crore and its EPS stood at Tk1.72.

At present, its paid-up capital is Tk30.24 crore. 

The company said it had declared bonus shares in 2020 to increase its paid-up capital. It did so to comply with the Insurance Development and Regulatory Authority's instruction to increase paid-up capital. 

On Monday, the company said in its disclosure that its annual general meeting would be held online on 28 April, and 6 April was set as the record date.

Agrani Insurance was listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange on 5 March, 2005.

Until February this year, of its 30,244,686 shares, sponsors and directors held 30.28%, institutional investors 7.28% and general investors 62%.

The company is engaged in providing: fire, marine hull, marine cargo, motor, engineering, and miscellaneous insurance.
